The story of Mama Lola didn't start in a kitchen...
It started the day the baby came into our lives.
Without knowing it, he showed us how important what a family puts on the table is.
We started looking for clean food, without additives, without preservatives, with real taste and as close to nature as possible. Ideally, directly from people, not from factories.
That's when we realized that the answer had always been at home:
in Negrași, where I grew up, where we have a little land and many memories of good soil, honest work, and simple life.
Grandpa was an agricultural engineer. He had a tractor and machinery, and when I was little, he would take me with him to the field.
The tractor ride was pure magic, and the love for the land and for work has stayed with me forever.
That's how the idea was born:
"Let's build something here, at home."
We wanted to spend more time with grandma, outdoors, in a place where our child could grow beautifully, freely, with greenery, with an orchard, with dirt under their fingernails and real play, not just concrete and screens.
That's how the first rows of the orchard appeared in 2021 — 6,000 m².
In 2024, the first field crops followed: shell beans, green beans, zucchini, pumpkin, and other vegetables.
In the meantime, I enrolled at USAMV, in Horticulture.
Now I am a second-year doctoral student and I am doing research right in our orchard — I am looking for organic solutions that nourish the tree, the soil, and the fruit at the same time.
We even use vegetable waste from production to make compost.
Part of the research is precisely about this: how we nourish nature so that it can nourish us back.
In addition to the orchard and vegetables, we also tested special crops — including saffron, here in Negrași. We enjoyed trying, learning, growing. And grandma supported me then, as always.
We were lucky to have extraordinary professors and wonderful colleagues. From them, but also from our farm, we get most of our raw materials.
And at the center of this story is grandma.
Niculina Mozăceanu — for the world, Lola.
She was a kindergarten teacher in the village and a substitute teacher at the school across the street — both right in front of our house, where today is the Mama Lola workshop and farm.
She raised entire generations of children with patience, gentleness, and care.
She was the person who supported me unconditionally.
Unfortunately, this spring, she passed away.
She didn't get to see this project completed… but she is here, in everything we do.
And yes, the name is chosen with heart: Mama + Lola.
It's also about my mother, Daniela — Mama Lola's eldest daughter — who resigned, left the city, and returned to the village to build together.
And in this whole story, by my side, day by day, is also my wife.
I thank her for her patience, for her trust, for her support in all moments, and for all her work behind this story.
Our roots are also in Gorj, Bălcești — and they are reflected in our way of living tradition.
That's how we ended up in Horezu, where we formed a beautiful friendship with the ceramist Bruno Valerian. Together we created the Mama Lola bowls — traditional, made with soul.
Here we cook over wood fire, in cast iron pots.
That's how we feel the true taste, the taste of childhood, the taste of the countryside.
And because everything starts with family, children, and education, we donate 1 leu from each product for the children in the village — to make their path easier.
You can find more details in the Our Mission section.
That's how Mama Lola was born:
from love, from longing, from the earth, from fire,
and from the desire to keep good alive.
Countryside indulgence — with purpose, from the heart.
